Parent Coordination assists parents who remain embroiled in high conflict after implementing their parenting plans and who struggle to resolve disputes related to their children even after their divorce has been finalized. It combines conflict resolution, case management, mediation and parent education. Parent Coordination focuses on helping parents develop a more constructive parenting relationship and facilitates child-centered decision-making, free from the historical conflict.
The goal of Parent Coordination is to protect children from parental conflict and to provide a framework for resolving these ongoing disputes. It also serves in helping interpret and/or clarify the Parenting Plans to reduce future conflicts and keep children out of the middle. Parent Coordination is intended to reduce parents’ reliance on the courts to resolve family disputes and disagreements and to do so in a timely way to minimize the impact to children.
In my role as a Parent Coordinator, I facilitate regularly scheduled meetings to address new or urgent matters. Parent Coordination may be court ordered, written into Consent Agreements or decided by mutual agreement upon recommendation of attorneys representing the family. In some cases, I am given decision-making authority by the Court.
